April

I took a hiatus from blogging, for no particular reason, but am ready to jump back into the swing of things. I figure I will start getting caught up with some April highlights!

Half Marathon run and Soccer Champions: Matt started playing in an indoor soccer league with some friends and they ended up winning 1st place. Next season they will be moved up a league!!! I managed to make it to the championship game and it was so fun to see the boys play! The championship game was after Matt and his friend ran the 1/2 marathon in Dallas. He puts me to shame!!!
Fred and Karen visited! (April) We had a blast having Fred and Karen here. Lots of shopping, a spa day at the Four Seasons, great food, celebrating Karen's birthday with dessert at Capital Grill, exploring Oak Cliff, walking Katy trail and enjoying brunch in the backyard. We can't wait for them to come back soon - but in the meantime we decided to plan a group trip to San Francisco!!!

DIY Projects: Our latest DIY projects have been redoing the kitchen table that Heather got from Craigs list PRIOR to us living together. She gave it to me when she moved to Denver and Matt and I have used it as our kitchen table ever since. Matt sanded the entire thing, stained and varnished it. We are pumped with the end result! Outside we have been keeping up with our plants and lawn....AND I have continued to "dabble" in the arena of gardening. My tomato plant has produced two cherry tomatoes and as of this past weekend my strawberry plant has started producing a few strawberries! My herbs of rosmary, mint and oregano are also doing pretty well! I moved them from the pots to the ground a few weeks ago and so far so good!

Matt's Birthday: Matt's 28th birthday was quite the success. We started with Whirly Ball (in a very scary part of Dallas) followed by a BBQ at the house. A few highlights:
  • Laura (Matt's sister) and her boyfriend Chris came into town and surprised Matt
  • Matt LOVED his birthday present I had been planning for months - framed newspaper clippings from the Packers superbowl win (he said it almost brought tears to his eyes)
  • Matt and Chris made life-sized Jenga, which was a HIT at the party
  • Matt made his famous fajitas - delicious!
  • Paul brought the dancing game for Kinect - and we all became very aware at our (lack of) dancing skills
  • Matt got some great presents including a "Aaron Rodgers like" championship belt, all kinds of accessories for grilling, and a surprise visit from Lucas the chicken!

Easter: Easter was a blast. I have had the priviledge of hosting my family and friends for Easter for about the last 8 years. Each year gets better and better. We are on the 3rd annual Easter crawfish boil - and this year took it to an entirely new level. Matt and Brian MADE a custom crawfish table. The best part for them was probably getting to use a saw. The core group expanded to include Kelly and her family, Carissa and her family, Joe, and two of Brian's friends. Everyone had a blast. Easter mass was great with everyone looking so nice all dressed up - and brunch was PERFECT!

(NOTE: Easter and Matt's bday are out of order - but I can't figure out how to easily move things on this system without having to move each picture one by one!)
