Bday Bash: Matt's 29

Exciting news...I pulled off Matt's surprise dinner party tonight! He has been out of town since last Monday and flew in to DFW at 4:45. I had arranged for all of our friends to get to Gordon Biersch at 6! I was so excited so many of our close friends could make it - especially on a Sunday!

The goal this year was to keep it simple - especially considering next year will be the big 3-0! It started with an email to our friends and ended with the pics below. You will see I couldn't not do ANYTHING - but having it at a restaurant was awesome. Easy and NO cleanup!

I wanted to bring in cupcakes - and the above is what happened. Matt is getting a new set of golf clubs for his bday - so I started with a golf themed cupcake and ended up making placemats, water bottles and party favors! Everything was so cute!

I also picked up a picture mat for everyone to sign. The caption was "Advice for Matt's golf game." Per usual, our friends thought of some hilarious ideas for improving his game!!!

Special guest was Molly who was on her best behavior!!!! What a cutie!

I was obviously not going to bring in his real golf clubs - so I got these at Walmart. They will serve two purposes...1) great fake gift for the party and 2) fun to have at the house for our adopted neices and nephews!

Katy and Drew regifted the Potty Putter! Thanks guys!

The golf ball....a tic tac!

Matt wearing a "golf visor" instead of a birthday hat!
Thanks everyone for coming - we have great friends!

BBQ Brilliance

Kelly & Joe came over Saturday for some time outside and good food! They found a new hamburger seasoning that was brilliant!!!! I was obsessed - delicious! It has been so nice to have such great weather lately...and fun to get to see Kelly & Joe.

Movie Mania

For the past 11 weekends Matt and I have either been out of town or hosting someone at our house. And it has been great, but as you can imagine....we are tired! As we got closer to this past Friday we decided just to hang out the two of us and relax. By Thursday night we had decided...movie night! Movie night for us it typically a frozen "Culinary" pizza and a redbox movie. We looked up the movies that were out at redbox and decided to tag team our efforts and each go to a different redbox on the way to work Friday morning. We ended up with 3 movies - and would you believe it - watched all three! I'm not sure I can remember the last time I watched more than 4 hours of TV in a row...but it was exactly what we needed.

We started with Tower Heist - and I have to admit we both really liked it. They had some pretty funny one liners!

Matt really wanted to see this movie and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It reminded me a lot of Superbad - in the sense that the plot all happened in one night - and had a lot of the same elements.

Matt also picked this movie. I am not sure if I have seen any of the other MI movies - but I liked this one a lot. Best part to me was the casting - they did a really good job of picking "Ethan's team". We laughed outloud more than once.
So three movies in a row is our record. What's yours?

Celebrity Crush

Matt is fully aware of my newest celebrity crush - and probably pretty okay with it since I believe my new onscreen hottie likes men - but can we take a minute to talk about Matt Bomer...what a cutie! My family got Matt and I into the show White Collar and we love it - in fact, it received its own blog post a few months back. Nathan will openly admit he has a man crush on the character Neil Caffery. Well just when you thought the guy's talent was acting and being ridiculously good-looking...apparently he can sing too! Good work Glee!

Video is from youtube.com

And just to be fair to my real-life crush...this guy is pretty ridiculously goodlooking too! And we make quiet the duet on roadtrips!!!

Spontaneous Picnic Dinner

Here is how the night's events went:

1. Drove home from work thinking - "I would love a glass of wine"
2. Matt had a work event tonight - and I felt like drinking alone sounded lame
3. Called Kelly to see if she randomly did not have plans and wanted to come over
4. She did not have plans and came over
5. Neither of us were planning on a big dinner so we combined ingredients and made a salad and toasted beer bread
6. The weather was so great outside - we brought the chairs to the front of the yard
7. 2 hours of a picnic outside enjoying each others company and getting to catch up
8. Lucky had a blast hanging out with us outside

What a great night - that I didn't even plan - it just worked out!

Heather's Final Fling Before the Ring

This past weekend I went to Denver to host Heather's bachelorette party! Success! Although she isn't getting married until July, she picked this past weekend because it was closing weekend in the mountains so we did a Denver/Breckinridge party/ski weekend. As MOH I wanted it to be perfect - and with the help of her friends...it was! I had the hardest time picking pictures because there were so many great ones - so beware - long post :)

I arrived Friday around 3 and Heather and I went to DSW to pick up some "stillettos" for the evening. Her group of friends wear scrubs daily so I wanted to make them dress up for the night!!! She showed me her adorable house and then dropped me off at a friends to decorate while she got ready! Johanne had margaritas (Heather's fav), cheese and inappropriate cookies and I brought themed decorations :).  We had a fun lingerie shower and some games and headed out to get the party started! We started at a tapas restaurant and after a 2 hour meal we headed to a piano bar. We ended the night at 3am and it couldn't have been a more prefect bachelorette night!

Saturday morning Joe made us breakfast and then we hopped in the car with Johanne and Erin and headed to Breck.

In the gondola headed up to the mountain.
Once we checked into our condo we headed up to the mountain for their last weekend concert. When we got there they had a regge band that was awesome! We hung out for about 2 hours (me=freezing) until the last song!

Drinking "the dog that bit them"!

After the concert we headed back into town and the girls indulged my need for a stop at the coffee shop!

We shopped and walked around town - ending at a cute little pizza place for dinner!

SNOW
After dinner we headed back to the condo - and with decently good intentions of going back out - or to the hot tub - the couches, caramel apples and pjs got the best of us! I think we are all fast asleep by 10:30. Guess that is what happens as you get older!

Saturday night it snowed 8 inches. The town went from no snow to this....

We did breakfast at "Daylight Donuts" and then the girls dropped me off at a coffee shop while they did a little hike in the snow. I did not appropriately pack for a "snow hike".

And we ended the weekend with some shopping and BONUS I found my bridesmaid's dress!

So minus the fact that my flight home was incredibly delayed (1am arrival) - it was a perfect way to celebrate this great time in Heather's life!!! Hope you had fun woman!
