My (Pinterest-Inspired) Halloween Party

A few months ago I joined the Pinterest bandwagon. I am actually quite impressed with myself that I am up and running on pinterest because I feel like nowadays there are so many "new" internet/social media/networking-ish sites that I can't keep up. Twitter would be one of those sites. I know for a lot of people pinterest can be a big time-consumer and suck you in. I don't have the attention span to look for too long - so maybe 5-10 minutes a day I'll take a quick look and pin a few things. I also haven't gotten into following people or uploading my own pins...baby steps!

If you looked at my "boards" you would see my more robust ones are around crafts, parties and organization. People have brilliant ideas out there and I love seeing things that I would have never thought of (but want to incorporate)!

So far I haven't done much with what I have pinned...until now that is. The holiday craft/party ideas are just out of this world and I have been so excited to use some of the ideas. So our Halloween party last night started as just a low-key, pumpkin carving "get together" that, of course, went aray immediately! A seperate post on that later...this post is dedicated to my "pins" coming to fruition! lol!

This wasn't a specific copy of any one idea, I just noticed a lot of people are making banners for their mantals and I love it! I think I will do one for Thanksgiving as well. Crafts can get expensive so I try to be creative with what I have to buy vs what I can use from home. This fun little project was under $5 - thanks to the paper being 75% off at Michaels!

Now this I cannot take credit for, nor did the idea come from Pinterest - but it might have well as. This was Tracey's creation. Amazing cheese balls with crasins and goat cheese in the middle. I think this might have been the hit of the night!!!

I loved this idea - worms in the ice-cubes. I waited until everyone had arrived to put them in. It looked soooo cute, however, I will say, more for looks because the worms left a residue in the water and it looked kind of gross. Maybe next time I will rinse the worms in water to get that chalky stuff off and then put them in the icecube tray.

so cute!
This is from Pinterest, and I bought all of the ingredients to make them and last minute Matt said we had too many desserts so I decided to wait and make them today for work tomorrow. BUT...looks like it was meant to be because Laura brought them!!!!

This was a spinoff from an idea I saw. I used cups I found at the dollar store ($1 for 6 cups). Bought off brand oreos (sorry guys), but two oreos at the bottom of the cup to take up space, jello mix (we all know how cheap jello is - and lucky for me idiot proof to make), another package of gummy worms, milano cookies and black icing I already had. The wine glass in the middle was more for decoration. I bought two wine glasses from the dollar store as well as the candy and used them as the centerpieces for the RIP desserts. The plate underneath is also from the dollar store. This creation total...closer to $18...but cute and tasty so I will say worth it!

The dessert table. My mom made the table runner for me (matches my kitchen tablecloth). Side note: I am a huge fan of the lime green/bright purple color combo for Halloween! In the center I made little caramel apple bites - idea from pinterest. This was a huge fail. I just looked at the picture and didn't actually look up how to make them. I assumed apples and melted caramel squares. They were NOT good. The caramel was so hard I thought it was going to break off a tooth. So I learned a few lessons: one apple gets a lot of bite squares, so no need to buy 10 apples (luckily apples can just become this weeks lunch snack so no harm not foul); also don't use the caramel that I used...someone suggested the caramel syrup that you would use on ice cream. BUT...as you can see it looked so cute so I gave everyone the disclaimer that they were for decoration only!!!

Next up: the parties EVENT and pumpkin winner!
