This year for lent I wanted to give up something new and make it a bit more of a challenge. In the past I typically have given up all sweets...which, is a challenge, but an old challenge. Last year I gave up Starbucks - but found a loophole and just got coffee from Barnes & Noble. So thinking about areas of my life that I could use some more discipline around...I came up with...disposable income spending. I LOVE shopping and home projects, and while I'm not by any means out of control...I do think there is PLENTY of room for improvement. I also think it is important, especially when living in Dallas, to not get caught up in materialism...so this should be a good "reset."
My lenten rules will be as follows:
Can spend money on:
-Food
-Starbucks
-Entertainment - so long as it is not a material item and Matt approves that is falls within my Lenten scope
-Bridesmaid dress for Heather's wedding
-Wedding gifts (we have three weddings coming up)
-A blow dryer - IF mine goes out before Easter. It is on the fritz right now
Cannot spend money on:
-Anything from Michaels
-Clothes
-Mani/Pedis
-Target - Matt has agreed to make our Target runs so I don't have the enjoyment of buying "necessities"
-More clothes
-Home projects (I will probably need to take a break from perusing pinterest for a bit)
-Material "things" that I don't need
I have always had a special spot in my heart for St. Francis, who gave away all of his worldly posessions, so he is who I hope to channel (on a really small scale) for the next 40 days. Wish me luck!
