Home Renovations: $0

Matt and I have enjoyed the past 3 days at home with no work by being unbelievably productive! Clean house, organized drawers, large box 'o stuff to be donated...you know the typical first of the year "chores!" But the exciting part is the home projects we have come up with. When we first moved in we did several home projects, but as the year got crazier and crazier we put our ideas to the back burner. Hopefully over the next couple of months I will get to share several posts with our progress...but for today I will share just the one. Our bathroom, hand-towel makeover.

Our house has "gold/brass" everything. Eventually we hope to get away from all of that brass, but it is a slow process. One cabinet handle might only cost $2-4 dollars, but when you count up how many cabinets, doors, etc you have in the house it adds up! In our guest bath we have a towel-holder on one side and then a small hand-towel holder above the toilet. We use a small stand on the sink for our hand towels so never really used the brass bar above the toilet. Until...that is...today! Using a black floating shelf we had stored in our guest room closet, we spraypainted (yes you all know our love of spraypaint!) it a hammered copper/brown/black color, took down the brass holder and replaced it with our shelf. It is so cute and the perfect way to display the New Orleans book we have been saving as decor for the "NOLA" themed bathroom!

Spray-painting the shelf. I have to say, I would have never in my wildest dreams thought I would be okay with spray-painting things...but it is such a fun way to change the look of something you already have!

Putting up the shelf. You can see the rings where the old rod used to be. We painted over it, but decided to hang the shelf a bit lower than initially anticipated so we will have to do some spakling (spelling!?!?).

So cute! I just love it!

Next up is replacing the hardware in this room and the laundry room! Here is our tester....it makes such a difference! Thank goodness for Home Depot gift cards!

Total cost of project...$0. We had all the supplies already! Sweet!!!
